Artist Statement
This series of paintings share a vocabulary of color fields intertwined with geometric shapes and conscientious deliberate lines. Mixed media is often utilized in my work in the form of collage or assembly. Textiles are an important inspiration; the tactile qualities of implied and actual texture are fascinating as are the patterns and shapes fabrics utilize.
I work intuitively using various techniques, mixing, pouring, peeling, reattaching, sewing, matching, and juxtaposing style, color, and texture. I find joy in making by creating surprising combinations of design with various inspirations and materials often found in my home.
I enjoy discovering, making mistakes, and letting my work evolve in an instinctual way. I experiment using different mediums to build my paintings These paintings focus on visual pleasure, and I take great pleasure in using bright colors in my artwork to evoke emotions, thoughts, and inspire new perspectives and engage the viewer. The bright colors and shapes elicit positive emotions and joy.
