Project Statement
Fauv Beauty is a fictitious California-based beauty company inspired by Henri Matisse and his Fauvism style. The company encourages all users to tap into their inner artist as they emphasize that every person is both the art and the artist. Fauv Beauty sells products that are high-quality and consists of natural ingredients in large ranges of shades. The company has launched new product line YNF (Your New Fav), introducing their inspiration from Matisse. Fauv Beauty establishes itself as an affordable cosmetic company that offers the quality of high-end makeup without any harsh chemicals.
The design goal for this client was to create a package design system that gives the products cohesion and variety. Fauv Beauty’s vision is to have natural products that are expressive and functional. This sense of expression can be seen in the loose shapes and use of color blocking on the packaging inspired by the works of Matisse. The dark blue has an elegant velvet-like finish that emphasizes the high quality. Within the product’s design, I decided to use the colors light blue, peach, and pink in contrast to the dark blue to create a clear sense of space with tones that do not visually conform to masculine or feminine design but are universal. The openings on the box forms feature the shade color of the product for ease in the customer finding the shade they want. The typography consists of the serif font Bely Display and the sans serif font Avenir in contrasting weights creating a balance that feels modern and clean. In all, the designs of the products of Fauv Beauty are cohesive, current, and expressive yet professional.
